From the Parent's Point of View

Strawberry Vale Preschool

As the parent of a child at SVP you play an active part in your child's school experience. As SVP is a cooperative preschool you will be asked to sign up for duty days wherein you will assist the ECE in the class.

Each month a schedule is circulated and parents sign-up according to their schedules. On your duty days you will help the children with their activities, provide some supervision and clean-up the classroom in preparation for the next class.

Being in the classroom with your child is a great opportunity to see him or her grow and develop. It is also a time to learn from the ECE, and develop new skills and approaches to use with your child.

You will also be required to attend monthly general meetings. Meetings are approximately two hours long and include both educational and business components. Guest speakers come to provide the education component. Recent speakers and topics have included: Dr. Allison Rees talking about children and temperament and Darren Lauer on keeping children safe from predators.

SVP parents also choose a job for the school year. These jobs vary in the degree of time commitments and range from jobs on the school executive to handy person to playdough-maker. As a cooperative school parents are the foundation of our program. Together we have a wonderful opportunity to watch our children's confidence grow to meet the challenges ahead.
