Q: We have a nanny (or grandparent) but still want our child to benefit from the philosophy and structure of parent-participation education, how can we accomplish this?

A: Lambrick Park Preschool & Childcare is very open to having nanny's (or grandparents) act in the role of 'parent' and attend the duty days.  Not only can your child still benefit from our amazing programs, but your nanny too will benefit from monthly educational sessions and our other educational resources.  Your family will still be part of our community, assisting with specific jobs, helping out with fundraising, and taking part in other fun activities, i.e., Spring parties.

Q: What is VICPA?

A: Our preschool is a member of VICPA, along with 15 other preschools on Vancouver Island.  VICPA, which stands for Vancouver Island Cooperative Preschool Association, provides our preschool with affordable insurance, support and training for our ECE, organization of the Making Tomorrow Conference and an equipment sharing library.  VICPA's website:  www.vicpa.org

Q: What play activities are available for my child?

A: Lambrick Park Preschool provides a huge array of activities for the children including the science table, cutting and pasting, table toys, dramatic play, music, play dough and clay, water play and sandbox, painting, block building, group time, outdoor play with extensive equipment and much more.

Q: How do I keep track of all the information I need for the preschool?

A: Each family is supplies a parent portfolio that provides all the information you need to help you with the operations of the preschool.  It is emailed to parents at the beginning of September.

Q: What about the bathroom?

A: We understand that children have accidents and the ECE will assist your child and you with this area.  Each child's development is different and their privacy is respected.  Just discuss your child's individual needs at registration and again in September.

Q: What should my child wear to school?

A: Our program includes exploring a variety of art mediums, including lots of paint and glitter.  Wearing play clothes to preschool is a must.  We go outside in the playground everyday and it is important that your child has suitable outdoor clothing for the weather.  Please provide a spare set of clothing, including socks and underwear to be kept at the preschool.

Q: My child has food allergies; can he/she still attend this preschool?

A: We are a school that supports children with allergies.  When you register your child you will need to document all their allergies and explain the processes you have in place to support them.  Lambrick Park Preschool is a no scent, no nut, no dairy, no seafood, no sesame or egg school.  We try not to have snack sharing and ensure children wash their hands when entering the school and before/after snack time.  These expectations are reviewed with all families and visitors to our school. (Please read the newspaper article regarding our "allergy free" policy).

Q: Why are there differences in participation?

A: In recognition of the changing social and economic realities of many families, the executive members of LPP decided it was necessary to add some flexibility to our structure.  We introduced three tiers of involvement.  Although all families must attend the business portion of the general meetings, only the full and partial participation families have to attend the parent education portions.  It is important to note though that everyone is invited to stay for the invaluable sessions.

Q: How many spaces are available for partial and limited participation families?

A: In order to maintain a standard of excellence, the number of families in the partial/limited participation categories combined cannot exceed 25% of the class.  Further details on job assignment, attendance requirements, etc. are available through the enrolment/orientation chair and ECE.
